Description
This child-like figure of Pan is found on top of Hogan's fountain in the Cherokee Park of Louisville, Kentucky. Pan was the God of nature in Greek mythology. He had a human body, horns on his head, with goat legs and feet. He played music on his pan-pipes as he romped among his flocks with the nymphs. This bronze, by artist Enid Yandall, was commissioned over 100 years ago. It was originally intended as a watering fountain for dogs and horses. The statue depicts Pan dancing in the lily pads and cattails. He is surrounded by turtles which are the water spouts for the fountain.
