Description
This image features Grand Central Terminal, also fondly called Grand Central Station. The facade of the building is in the Beaux-arts style with arches. The 13 foot high clock is surrounded by 3 statues of Roman gods by French artist Jules-Felix Couten. The sculpture is called "The Glory of Commerce". In it Hercules, the son of Zeus, represents strength and valor. Mercury is the god of financial gain; he is symbolic of travel and commerce. He also is often depicted as fleet-footed with wings. To the right is the statue of Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, and the guardian of cities. The rapid-transit building faces 42nd Street with its line of yellow taxis. The terminal serves 200,000 commuters a day. The image has been lightly textured.
