Description
This bumpy seed pod, commonly called an Osage-Orange or a hedge-apple, sits on a stacked rock wall at the Shaker Village in Pleasant Hill, Kentucky. The yellow-green knobby balls are about 5" in diameter, about the size of a grapefruit. The trees grow to about 40 feet high and are found in 39 states. The wood from the tree is prized for making bows. The fruit is good for keeping away pests such as spiders.
