This is a closeup of the bell tower and the front facade of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Montecito, California. There has been a church, in one form or another, in this area since the Santa Barbara Mission was built in 1786. The church is in the Pueblo Mission style with a front courtyard, rough walls, and a bell tower. The current structure was built in 1936, and still serves as a parish church. Take the time to look inside the sanctuary, it is beautiful! Thankfully, this beautiful church was left untouched by mud and debris flows that followed the devastating Thomas fire. However, seven members of its parish were lost. This image has added texture.
As fifth generation Californian, I mostly specialize in California photography. I am are inspired by the landscapes and seascapes of the Pacific Coast and its beach communities. However, my galleries also show an eclectic mix of images with a variety of subjects and places. When I visit an area, I try to tell the story of that area with images. I may take the “big” image of the location, but we will also look for what is overlooked, for the things that make an area unique and finish the story. I often use close cropping and square format to zero in on a subject, making a tiny piece of the whole become the new focus. I like to capture details such as color, patterns and textures.
