We heard on the radio that the wildflowers were blooming in Pinnacles National Park. So we hopped in the car for a two hour drive. I had visions of masses of different kinds of flowers, but this is all we found! The yellow wildflowers are called Goldfields. In this image they lead the eye to an interesting square rock formation. The carpet of yellow blends nicely with the unusual gray-green color of the foliage in the area. Pinnacles is located on the San Andreas fault, and is the site of volcanic activity that happened some 23 million years ago. The area became a National Park in 2003, when its name was changed from Pinnacles National Monument. The west entrance of the park is located just 5 miles east of Soledad, California, only a short drive from the Salinas Valley. This image has added texture.
As fifth generation Californian, I mostly specialize in California photography. I am are inspired by the landscapes and seascapes of the Pacific Coast and its beach communities. However, my galleries also show an eclectic mix of images with a variety of subjects and places. When I visit an area, I try to tell the story of that area with images. I may take the “big” image of the location, but we will also look for what is overlooked, for the things that make an area unique and finish the story. I often use close cropping and square format to zero in on a subject, making a tiny piece of the whole become the new focus. I like to capture details such as color, patterns and textures.
