Description
This an image of the water tower in the Texas Hill Country town of Bandera, Texas. Bandera is also known as the Cowboy Capital of the World. The tall water towers are elevated water tanks using a system of water pressure and gravity. They provide water in the case of a power outage or in case of an emergency, like a fire. They supply about a days worth of potable water. Water towers have been around since historical times. They also once supplied water for steam locomotives. Names are often painted on the sides of the tanks to proudly proclaim a town, to advertise, or to help as a navigational aid. This image has additional texture.
