Description
The impressive San Buenaventra City Hall was built in 1912. The historic Beaux Arts building started as a courthouse and housed the Sheriff's Office and the jail. In 1969 it was closed down because it didn't meet seismic standards. The City of Ventura bought the building, did the upgrades, and re-opened the building as the Ventura City Hall in 1974.
Located in downtown Ventura, the building has neo-classical columns and is decorated with 24 different sculpted friar faces. A statue of Father Serra stands in the gardens in front.
