Description
Besides the beautiful ocean and the sandy shore, South Beach has much more. The Art Deco District in this area has a treasure trove of historical Art Deco buildings built in the 1920's, 30's, and 40's. The Colony Hotel is one of the iconic hotels located on Ocean Drive, just across the street from Lummus Park. It was designed and built in 1935 by Henry Hohauser, in what is called Tropical Art Deco style. It happens to be the oldest Art Deco hotel in Sobe. The front of the building is simple and symetrical, with blue "eyebrows" over the windows. Perhaps the most prominent feature is the large neon sign which contains the hotel's name. At night, the sign is lit up in bright blue neon.
