Description
In the front is a California sea otter with her juvenile pup. They resting and floating in the shallow water at Morro Bay California, Female sea otters usually have only one pup, but sometimes have twins. In California, most births take place from January to March. The mothers hold their pups close to their chests while floating on their backs in the water. They both nurse and nurture their young, teaching them how to swim and hunt, The young are considered independent at about eight months.
