Description
Tiny New Cuyama, and its neighbor Cuyama, are located in the Cuyama Valley of Santa Barbara county. They are found at the junction of four California counties: Kern, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura. The area was was once occupied by the Chumash Indians. Later, it was home to two Mexican land grants at the time California won independence from Spain. Oil discovery changed things in the valley in 1949 when the town was settled. This weathered sign gives a humorous look at the sparse population of the town.
