Description
Pigeon Point Lighthouse, about 30 miles north of Santa Cruz, is located near Pescadero in northern California. The conical white tower, with its black iron catwalk, makes it one of the tallest lighthouses in the United States. It was named after a ship called the Carrier Pigeon which was wrecked on the rocks near there in 1853. The lighthouse was once a Coast Guard residence and has three domitory-style bungalows which are now used as a hostel. There is also a fog horn building that was built in 1902.
