Description
This large neon sign welcomes visitors to the beach community of Ventura, California. It sits on the side of the freeway at the corner of Thompson and California. The sign belongs to an investment company called the Becker Group. The sign was originally put up to in an effort to attract visitors to downtown Ventura. Some say this neon sign is a knock-off of the Santa Monica Pier sign. The sign has a beach vibe with its ocean blue. It was shaped to look like a wave breaking. Supposedly, Santa Monica sued Ventura for copying its sign, but I can't confirm that. The smaller Rip Curl sign is an advertisement for a nearby surfboard company.
Ventura was in the news recently because of the devastating Thomas fire which burned right into downtown. Many had to evacuate their homes. According to Cal Fire, 1063 structures were destroyed.
