Description
Pebble Beach is located between Battery Point and Point St. George, in Crescent City, California. It is a long, wide beach with many connecting coves and offshore rocks. In the northern part of the beach, where the wetlands open up, is Castle Rock Wildlife Refuge. The rock is only 14 acres and is 335 feet above sea level. It is 1/4 mile offshore. It has a grassy slope, cliffs, and 2 large inlets. Over 41 different species of birds have been found here. Beside migrating birds, the rock is the home to hundreds of thousands of birds during the breeding season. You will find 3 species of Cormorants, Aleutian Cackling Geese, Pigeon Guillemots, Rhinoceros Auklets, Storm Petrels, and Tufted Puffins nesting here. Harbor seals, Elephant seals, Sea Lions and Steller Seals also come to shore on the rock.
