Description
The historic 17-story Freedom Tower in downtown Miami, was built in 1925. The Mediterranean Rival style building was modeled after the Giralda Tower in Spain. It is decorated with concrete medallions, corinthian columns, and wrought iron balconies, all topped by a bronze sailing ship. The highrise got its name because it was the hub for processing Cuban immigrants during the first wave of exiles in the 1960's. At one time it also was the home of the Miami News and the Miami Metropolis.
