Description
Montecito California is the site of a beautiful Catholic church called Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This church was proceeded by two other churches. The first one was an adobe church built in 1856. When a new and larger building was needed, a wooden church was erected in 1898. The present church was built in 1936. It is considered a Pueblo Revival Mission style building, with a front courtyard, a bell tower, and rough plastered walls. The historic church was evacuated for the recent Thomas fire, and again by the mudslides caused by the heavy rains afterwards. The church was left untouched by the mud and debris, but seven of its members were killed. This image has added texture.
