Description
The Seattle Chinatown gate arches 45 feet over South King Street. It was built in 2007 by Paul Wu and Ming Zhang in Paifang Arch style. It contains over 8,000 ceramic tiles made in China. The letters at the top translate into "China Gate". Full of symbolism, the gate is red, gold, yellow, and blue with peach-colored animals on top. The dragon and phoenix help keep bad luck away. The orb on the roof is a fireball from heaven, which brings good luck.
