Description
I loved the blue-green color of the ocean of this stem of kelp floating on the water! The unusual green color of the water is caused by the shallow and sandy ocean bottom under the pier. The ropy tubular stems and large flat leaves of the plant bob up and down as the tide goes in and out. Kelp forests are created in rocky areas offshore. The forests attract otters, gulls, and terns, above them. Other wildlife, such as sea lions, and shellfish can be found below the forests.
