Rural La Purisima Mission is a State Historical Park located near Lompoc, California. Established in 1787, it was the 11th mission of 21 missions built in Alta California by the Franciscan padres. The mission was just rubble when it was acquired by the US government in 1935. With time, research, and expert craftsmanship, the mission has been rebuilt to what it is today. Meticulous copies of the furniture and even the locks on the doors, have been reproduced. This is a view of one of the colonnades. In the background you can see one of the wooden carts which were pulled by oxen or donkeys.
As fifth generation Californian, I mostly specialize in California photography. I am are inspired by the landscapes and seascapes of the Pacific Coast and its beach communities. However, my galleries also show an eclectic mix of images with a variety of subjects and places. When I visit an area, I try to tell the story of that area with images. I may take the “big” image of the location, but we will also look for what is overlooked, for the things that make an area unique and finish the story. I often use close cropping and square format to zero in on a subject, making a tiny piece of the whole become the new focus. I like to capture details such as color, patterns and textures.
