Description
Built in1909, the Santa Monica Municipal Pier is one of the oldest piers in California. It is a cement pier stretching 1600 feet into the Santa Monica Bay. It was originally built to carry sewage away from the city and out past the breakers. It was a plain utilitarian wharf with no buildings. That all changed when Charles Looff added another pier closer to shore in1922. That famous pier houses an amusement park with a Merry-Go-Round, a Ferris Wheel, rides, and concessions.
