Description
The iconic Theme Building at LAX Airport resembles a flying saucer. It has four legs 15 feet above the ground, which become arches crossing over the top. The space age building was built in 1951, originally designed to be the airport traffic hub. But, that was soon abandoned and the building was scaled down in size to become a restaurant. The restaurant was dedicated as a cultural monument in 1961 and dedicated by President Johnson. However the restaurant closed in 2013 and only the observation deck remains open.
