Description
This kitschy cat sign is a real attention getter in downtown Los Angeles. Felix the Cat was a popular cartoon character created by Patrick Sullivan in 1921. Sullivan was also friends with Winslow Felix, who owned a Chevrolet dealership. Winslow wanted a brand and mascot for his business. Since his last name was already Felix, the cat was a perfect fit. The 3-sided neon sign appeared in the 1950's. Today, the famous cat still sits on top of Felix Chevrolet on the corner of Jefferson and Figueroa. The landmark sign is visible from both the Harbor freeway, and parts of downtown.
