Description
Mission San Antonio de Pauda, more commonly called, Mission San Antonio is located in a remote area of Monterey County of California, near the small town of Jolon and next to Hunter-Liggett, a US Army garrision. It was founded in 1771 and was the 3rd mission of 21 missions built by the Spanish Franciscans in what was Alta, California. The church is the third building erected on this site, with most of the restoration done by William Hearst in the 1940's. The front of the church makes it unusual. There are three arches constructed of burned bricks built out from the portico, with two arched bell openings.
