Description
Point Pinos Lighthouse is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the west coast. It was first lit in 1855, and is on the National Register of historic places. Located in Pacific Grove, California, the lighthouse has a small square building, a red roof, and a conical tower. The building is now a museum. It sits in a field facing Asilomar State Beach and has a gorgeous view of Monterey Bay. The original lens was lit by whale oil at one time, but was eventually automated in 1975. The working lens is still used today.
